Fraykido Martial Arts Association

Why do people train in the Martial Arts?

Some people do martial arts for fitness and to develop strength, flexibility, and endurance. Other people do martial arts to learn self-defense as a civilian who can (and most likely should) leave a situation, a police officer who cant leave a situation, or as a volunteer in the Armed Forces who are put into a situation intentionally and have to survive. Another tradition in the martial arts is of learning to develop the personal energy and willpower within each individual. Children do martial arts to develop discipline, focus and confidence. The martial arts encompass a wide range from fitness to sports and from self-defense to self-improvement. It is only in the study of the martial arts and self-defense that the best in you can truly be revealed. In a life-and-death situation, there is no could have, would have, should have; there is only do and survive.

About the Founder of Fraykido

Although there's a lot of publicity on how the martial arts went from India to China, I don't have the same opinion with this. I practice Indian Martial Art & also Chinese Martial Arts and find no comparison in Indian & Chinese styles excluding some animal styles. People also confuse the starting point of martial arts with the Shaolin Temple. Martial arts have been there for over 2,000 years. There's no doubt still that China, India and Korea are the oldest places to do martial arts.

An INTRODUCTION (Foreword by Master Sanjay Shakya)

Many martial arts today’s teach technique, nothing more students finally become masters of technique, but when age catches up with them their once perfect technique begins to fail and they are left with nothing. In my earlier days of training, I trained hard and enjoyed the energy and power that go with youthful practice, performing martial arts techniques with strength and speed. Now I find I come close to those same techniques in a very different way, looking for an economy of movement that practices the maximum effect from minimal expenditure energy.

Not all forms of self-defence are actually considered to be marital arts. Some argue that unless warriors were using a fighting system in actual combat, it was not truly marital arts. Additionally, there is a difference between martial art and martial sports; the sport application of a combat system is not a martial art. Strictly defined, martial arts are combat arts, methods for killing an opponent in battle. When we use the term “Kung fu” to describe the martial art we practice, I wonder how may of us realize just how wide its applications actually are, I have been involved in the study of Indian and Chinese martial arts for more years than I care to disclose. Even now, I find such a variety of these techniques and applications that my mind can scarcely contain it all.

I include in “Fraykido” my own experience, covering 15 years of martial arts training and from discussion with many peoples practicing yoga and martial arts and from a long familiarity with almost the principle books on the subject of yoga and self-defence written by the greatest authorities.

“Fraykido” martial art is practiced for health and fitness, sport, law enforcement, spiritual benefits as well as self-defence. There are five ways of defeating the enemy, striking, kicking, joint locking, dodging, throwing and through weapons use. It means skill, self-discipline, bravery, loyalty, honour, honesty, and obedience. What I am trying to say there is not only extensive range of techniques in Fraykido but also a number of different ways of performing those same techniques. This is why “Fraykido’, techniques are work equally well for the child and the youth or the older person.

Fraykido has two main categories, routine exercise and free fighting as its forms. It is different for many of today’s styles, such as Karate, Taekwando, Jeetkunedo, etc. These styles block first and then attack. “Fraykido” emphasizes self-defence, focusing on techniques that allow a block and an attack in the same movement.

A special section introduces to innovative use of supports enabling beginners or the less flexible to practice the fighting skills and classic yoga asana more easily and effectively. There is a 25-month “Fraykido” martial art course personally prepared by me. Fraykido Martial Arts Association organizes regular camps/seminars at both the instructor and student level to improve the quality of the discipline and to help it grow.

How to Train at Fraykido Kung Fu Training Center

Fraykido has two main categories, routine exercise and free fighting as its forms. It is different for many of today’s styles, such as Karate, Taekwando, Jeetkunedo, etc. These styles block first and then attack. “Fraykido” emphasizes self-defence, focusing on techniques that allow a block and an attack in the same movement. It is more familiar with the Wing Chun & Manipuri martial arts styles. Fryakido Training Center trained scholars in Indian and Chinese Martial Arts both in the same way. The goal of this section is to provide Indian and Chinese martial arts training tips and technique to those wishing to learn these techniques. The basics, individual techniques, forms, and applications will be provided for most of the kung fu styles described on this website. Fraykido requires of the practitioner a strict code of physical and mental discipline, unparalleled in Western pursuits. It is only as a whole concept that Fraykido can be discussed, and this requires more than fighting.

BEGINNING STUDENTS - There are two types of basic techniques. There are basic Fraykido techniques, which are common to most martial arts styles, and there are the basic techniques of each style.

LEARNING FRAYKIDO BASICS - Instructors of Fraykido style will be able to assist the beginner in correct execution of the basic techniques described here, as should instructors of most martial arts. Once the Fraykido basics are performed to the specifications of a qualified instructor, the student can proceed to the basic techniques of a specific kung fu style.

ADVANCED STUDENTS - As with any martial art, each of the Fraykido kung fu styles has both basic and advanced techniques and applications. If you are already a student of one of the Martial Arts styles, either you will likely find new forms here, or at least new applications for the forms you already know.

Advanced martial arts practitioners seeking to learn a new style will still need to start with the basic Fraykido and specific style techniques until they become familiar. Forms and applications can then be learned with the more advanced applications, but again, qualified instruction is needed to approach true proficiency in any style.

You will learn FRAYKIDO to counter all styles

If you want to learn all about the martial arts, most martial art 'experts' suggest you cross-train in a variety of styles. When it comes to defending your life, should you rely on hundreds of techniques coming from multiple styles and doing what you prefer rather than what reality demands in the moment or should you use a seamless, uniform system that is in harmony with the reality? We call this being 'subjective' (using your personal preferences) or 'objective' (using an integrated, systemic approach).
What makes a technique work is the possession of true experience that creates instantaneous recognition of the right tool at right time and right place with the right energy. What gets us into trouble is a lack of experience that leaves us at the wrong place, the wrong time or the wrong energy. All human experiences are in the context of time, space and energy. This principle of Time, Space, and Energy is the key to all human activities. The common denominator makes techniques work. For example, a Taekwondo side kick is not better than a Boxing right cross no more than a Jujitsu choke is better than a Judo throw. An effective martial artist uses the right tool at the right place and the right time.

All human beings have the same skeleton. Fraykido martial art system first teaches proper body mechanics and then follows with tactics and strategies rather than fixed patterns and forms most often seen in various martial art styles. Having one system is ultimately more efficient than learning four or five styles to try to develop practical self-defense. You know, your arm only adds 25% of the total power of a punch. If you only punch with your arm, as most people do, you are not using 75% of your full potential. If you know how to use your bodys full potential, you can easily handle someone much larger than yourself. If you know how to use the full potential of your mind and attitude, you can accomplish anything in life.
