Piano tuning with over 70 years of experience Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of a piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune. This is usually required once a year, although in some cases more frequently for example as a result of the piano moving apartments, or from room to room. In case the piano has been moved by a professional mover specialized in pianos, the tuning is affected only slightly in general although for the trained ear an additional tuning is required. Once in a while during the yearly tuning, there is a need for additional treatments such as regulation which is defining the measurements of distances in the piano action for proper performance and "feel´ when playing, intonation which is treatment of the pianos hammers in order to balance the sound of the piano. These actions will improve the quality of the pianos sound and touch and are executed per the customer´s desire for a more mechanical or softer sound.In order to implement this, it demands from the tuner sometimes creativity as well improvisation as no pianos are alike, as the mechanics are unique in each piano.The art of tuning a piano is not only technical but requires musical skills as well. The combination of the two of them enables a perfect result in tuning a piano.
